"But what it does do is it is a great catalyst for much bigger changes. It engages people in the processes of becoming more energy efficient." I have to agree, we need to be more energy efficient to help our earth.
Even If we as individuals, may have not participated in its warming, I am one to participate in its healing process...one step at a time. Thank you for posting this...

Or, at least, a rather plumb cat called Pocus and some rather large dust balls, I really should vacuum more. - look at my pictures to meet the Mr. Pocus I am speaking of, dear lady. I visited your website, it was quite lovely. I am way past symbolic actions to save the world. Change the heart, live quietly, conservatively, respect our Mother, Love the Father of Lights and do what is right.

I am for nuclear energy, we can even ship the wastes out into space if we are really worried about them in the long run - and research. The sun is a fusion furnace heating the entire solar system - how does it work? How would we contain fusion power with its' high temperatures? it doesn't produce waste - we could literally use our waste products to power our civilization for a million years - we could go to the stars if we wanted to (which I do!) . We need to do research on real things, not dreams. And, Star Trek, aside, how does one contain anti-matter.. the energy of a matter/antimatter explosion is even more radical than that of the sun's fusion... Our civilization is going to fall big time (right back to the dark ages - and this time it won't be just an hour!) without real answers. Wind, solar, bio-fuels are nonsense. The only new idea that might work is geo-thermal. They are short term, feel-good solutions - they belong in California, the land of every new, silly fad.
They are't real answers to our desperate times.

Real solutions for an entire civilization - and, remember Asia, South America and Africa all want to join us in our more advanced technological civilization, and, also, deserve to... why should we be the only kids on the block with all the toys? Three worlds on one planet are way too many worlds. They will need even more energy if they do so - the whole world is going to need increasingly more energy as the century grows older.
I disagree, Lady, it isn't a catalyst - it isn't anything if it isn't religious... how many people go to mass on Sunday and then go home and abuse their kids, cheat on their wives, cheat on their taxes etc... the rest of the week? How many people are going to turn off their lights and then the next day forget to recycle, turn off the lights they aren't using, decide to stay close to home for vacation and only drive when they absolutely have to - heck, just trying to get them to use cloth bags at the grocery store, isn't working, is it? Real change hurts and symbolic events and good feelings aren't going to save us in this century. Good feelings are for kids, grow up, people!
<<< in this bastion of liberal sensibility called Seattle, no one uses mass transportation unless they have to.. what did they expect?? - lawyers getting on buses? MS millionaires riding the rails to work? I don't think so. Mass transit is for the Poor, the retired and lower middle class - those who can't afford to own a car. >>>
What is required is personal conversion, if you want to talk in religious terms; Wanting to do the right thing because it is the right thing. Loving the earth, life, civilization and the human race is darn much that you want them to survive and prosper for all the centuries to come. Love transforms. It isn't symbolical turning the lights off, its turning all the lights of the soul --- ON - changing the heart happens in a moment and takes a lifetime of work to make real.
I will not pay attention to this event.

We have all participated in the problems of the planet. You understand karma, lady, there is world karma, also - I am part of the human race, this is my karma, too. Each person has a responsibility to change. Real change for a civilization takes everyone. Governments aren't going to do this -they can finance research and that is about it. I don't trust government to fix things. They are good at making long speeches and bureaucracy, and that is about it.
