I tried the woman of leisure thing, lasted 5 minutes. LOL. Working in my flower beds, walking the dogs, reading books, or even researching stuff online. I just hafta always be doing something. Its one of the things that I love about fossil hunting, its not just the finding them, take them home and the research what they are on a rainy day. Keeps me busy.

Am finally making those cabbage rolls. The house stinks from cabbage! Lighting candles as I wait for the water to get hot, I ran out of softened leaves for wrapping. I am gonna eat good at work this weekend!

Hey Kathy (and Lisa) lol
I soooo agree wth you. About watching how people treat animals and service people. I've even said that before. Now, there's always the odd ball who had a bad past experience with an animal and otherwise is a good natured person, but for the most part, its a very good indication as to a person's spirit.
I don't think anything was spelled wrong, I'm at the point where if I understand whats written, I go on. LOL. So tell Pocus, its ok to flicker the tail. LOL.
OK *sheepish look* I admit, I am a "cleaner" I actually relax doing it and enjoy cleaning. Weird, I know. Somedays when I come home from work, I'll just start cleaning, its calms me down after a stressful day. Everyone has their relaxers. That just happens to be mine. BUT I do not have white carpet or furniture! How would I ever find my dogs with all that white anyhow! My aunt has all white stuff, shes well.......a kind way to say it would be "sterile". Worries too much, no pets, no laughter. Blah.
I agree about unions, I do, I just feel torn because of my parents. So at that note, I just won't talk anymore about them. lol. (But I do sympathize with the union workers who strike and lose so much).
Oh, and welcome to our pages Lisa, hope you enjoy this as much as I do. Kathy is a kind soul, one in a million. Truely intelligent, funny, wise, and a little clumbsy. hehehe.

Ok, back from my walk. Wanted to touch on 2 more things.
The management at work have some strange warped idea that the cats will somehow hurt the residents, its true we do have some residents that walk the campus and some do chase the cats, in an effort to pet them I suppose. BUT those cats have been there for many years and no one has gotten hurt, no one bitten, and no one has eaten cat poo. There have been memos that if you are caught feeding a cat, you will be fired. I have heard of one lady before I worked there that was fired, not sure if this is true or not. They really are warped. One house manager even tried to chase the cats off the sidewalk, they are somewhat wild anyhow, and looked like an idiot, PLUS he makes himself out to be a big christian, my fellow nurse friend told him, what happened to "All Creatures Great and Small".....I could go on, don't get me wrong, its a beautiful place to work with my heart going to the residents BUT the cat issue is stressing.
The other issue is about labor unions, well, I should support them more as thats what kept food on our table as I was growing up. Both of my parents were in a union. My father, a labor union. My mother, a nurses union. I have seen them work for the people. thats about where it ends because today, I have not seen the backbone unions once had. I have become one of those people who have gone to the other political party because of issues I cannot ignore. I really am not a political minded person, but do keep up on the cantidate's views and format.
Anyhow, add politics to the list if we were closer.

Clarification: opposite ends of the spectrum= your love for cats vs my love for dogs. I COULD have used a better set of words. LOL.
Have a good day my friend.
I am off to walk a couple dogs.

About the cats at work. Well, the vet notches the ears of the ones neutered, see, we TRY and find homes for the kittens BUT there are so many and the older ones so wild, its about all we can do. So if we catch one with a notched ear, we know to release it and try again. Its kind of the weekender's secret duty because during the week, the management are there and HATE the cats. They have threatened to have them all killed. I am not going farther on this topic, its just vital to keep their numbers low, not only for their health, but their mere lives. (We sneak food too but thats hush hush also)
Seems we are at the opposite ends of the spectrum, I am such a softie when it comes to my dogs. Love them Love them. Took me so long to recover from my Tianka's passing away. She's been passed for a few years now and even to this day I have a twinge of wanting to cry. She was with me through thick and thin, when I had my bone infection, she stayed by the couch with me, as if to say, "I am here for you, I love you". Flash, my older kom shares her warmth in personality and is sensitive to my moods and feelings. He knows when I am sick, knows not to pull on the leash and tip-e-toes around children. I don't know if Dodger will have this type of personality, he seems much more high strung, still a puppy though, a lot of growing up to do.

Wish you would have told me about the blue crane theme on my page, I didn't know it slowed people up til another friend said he couldn't see what he was writing. LOL. It had too many glitches anyhow. lol.
You better worry more about us playing God with genes. There's talk of the offspring of cloned animals hitting the food markets allready. Its a scarey thought, O sure, i'd love to see a cloned mammoth BUT that technology surely has a price to pay. The clones (back to modern animals) still have all the abnormalities of the animal they cloned, its no improvement, no variation in genes. What good is it? I guess if they can clone someone's heart or lung, if it saves lives then who am I to say whether or not its a good thing. Its just a totally scarey topic for me, seems too unnatural for us to be doing. (But I still wanna see a baby mammoth heheh)
I have finally been able to sit down for more than 5 minutes, the rabid teething monster......I mean, Dodger, is sleeping. SHHHH. Don't wake him. A moment's peace in here is worth its weight in gold. LOL.
Have a good night Kathy.

Hey there. Good thing we don't live closer or we would end up talking all day and not get anything done!
I'm glad you mentioned your views and comments aout dogs, I have a DR appt today and need something to take my mind off. PLUS Obama is going to be in my hometown, YES my little 2 horse hometown. Hes there at 4pm and I pick my mother up at 3pm. There are 2 roads that lead into town and goodness sakes I hope they don't have them shut down. Smithfield Ohio is my hometown if you're curious enough to look it up. ANYHOW.
I agree alot with what you have to say about dogs. Recently, more and more issues have risen with popular breeds from back yard breeders not testing their stock. This was the same case with the large Hungarian male my aunt imported. Now, if a Komondor doesn't get an OFA (testing for hips) he doesn't get bred. Its also customary to test for cataracts and elbow displasia. Unfortunately, not all breeds are as lucky. The Komondor Club of America has set regulations and rules as to breeding dogs, basically if you mess up, you don't get their support and they won't recommend buyers to you. With such a rare breed, their support is alot. When I bred my dog, I had references from buyers and everything sorted out before I even bred her. The shame is that everyone doesn't breed for improvement of the breed, they see $$$$$$$$ or want to have Fido have pups because he is such a handsome dog without knowing if he is even a good specimen of the breed.
Allergies in dogs, yes, its sad. I really am not sure why Dodger is itchy today. When I get home, I plan on bathing him. maybe he picked up a flea at the park. I do hope its not allergies, I have a friend with yellow labs, one has allergies so bad she can hardly be outside!
Yes, a cat is a cat is a cat. Does feline leukemia run across the board or is it genetic? The "feral" cats at work (15 or so of them) have been afflicted with it. We try to catch the kittens and neuter them or find them homes. I've heard a few people who have taken kittens say they lost them due to leukemia. Not being a cat person (allergies myself), I couldn't say much about it other than it is terrible.

I do admit the tea tree oil smells funny but when you have an itchy dog and see that it works, its like your mummy wrappings, you learn to like it. I haven't used it for a couple years but Dodger the puppy seems like he has sensitive skin, he's a little itchy. Doesn't scratch himself alot but enough to make me take notice. It could be allergies, I surely hope not. I suppose it could also be from his growing. He is growing so fast. I am sure he is bigger at his age (4months) than any of my other dogs were at his age. Odd though, his father isn't large for a Komondor, I'm hoping he turns out a nice medium size. My aunt imported one from Hungary years ago that dwarfed all dogs around him. I was actually a little leary of him just because of his size. Turns out though, he had bad hips by the age of 2. Sad Sad. Anyhow, I know who to turn to if I ever find myself sleepless, I'll bet you've tried many things to help sleep.

By the way, thanks for the lavender link. I've always been a supporter of natural remedies. Some of them have been around for ages, tried and true. I use a few also on my dogs, such as tea tree oil for itchiness. Works great.
I looked up valerian before you posted your comment about it. Very interesting stuff. Wonder why I've never heard of it. Anyhow hope you have a good day. I wanted to make cabbage rolls today but ya know, I may wait until we have a cooler day. The kitchen gets so hot when I'm baking. I think its supposed to get almost to 90 today, doesn't seem like its humid though so that is good.

Hi there Kathy... in the next few days i'll write you a longer writeup for you to ponder on.
I heard some more news about that Hadron Collider experiment... apparently the machine will be switched on a few days from now. Some scientists are ion the process of appealing to the European courts to halt the experiment as they are concerned about the black holes. The opposition says they have done thier homework but who knows what can happen if such a machine has never been operated before? Lets keep our fingers crossed!
About the statistics of the soldiers at the front... I think that in the modern era this is much more the case, there being mnuch more logistic demands on armies. I think ancient armies on the whole, the soldiers were jack of all trades. Legionaries carried entrenching tools ect. They could fight and carry out engineering works too. I think the Vikings worked on this principle too, largely. as warefare becomes more complex certain things become specialist jobs. Being in the army nowadays, you can apply for 101 positions. the frontline soldiers truly deserve the recognition.
I think the human compulsion is to be free. we want to fly on the wings of the mind. The trouble is, we are still tied to the struggle for survival, even if this struggle is infinately better than it was a few centuries ago. We go to work, come home have dinner and habits bundle us off to bed when maybe we are capable of so much more. The demands of modern living worry us, make us fret. Our mortgage, bills, even keeping up with e-mails is stress. Timekeeping also hinders the human mind it seems. I remember reading a article on Aliester Crowley once. He sent a young actress to an island to recuperate. She was bored to tears at first, but gradually as she forgot all notion of time her mind relaxed and dshe sank into herself. She found herself on a whole new level of consciousness, a high i guess, a kind of elation that a child might feel on Christmas morning. Free from the cloying confines of civilisation her mind became harmonised. There is also a story of how Crowley with a reporter walked along with a reporter behind someone. He told the reporter " Watch this" He buckled his knees, falling to the ground. The man in front who was a stranger, likewise buckled and fell to the ground. It seems some people have developed thought pressure. I think we can all do this now and then but these gifted few are able to do it at will. When an ordinary person does it, it is done without awareness of doing it. We've all though of a certain person 10 seconds before the phone rings. It's certainly uncanny. I think that maybe we are on the threshhold of evolution. Perhaps people like Rasputin, Uri Geller and such are merely the front runners? Undoubtely are brains will continue to evolve.
I also read a case for afterlife too. It was called the red pajamas case. You may have heard of it...A man a certain professor received a communication from a medium in Ireland who was passing on a message from a spirit who was claiming to be... William James. Now the professor knew a William James. They'd been childhood friends and William had died. The spirits message was... Remember the red pajamas. the professor was baffled, then he remembered.... When he and James were young men they went to Paris together, but their luggage had'nt arrived. the professor went out to buy pajamas but could only find a bright red pair, for which William had teased him mercilessly. The professor could not explain the message, except by accepting that the message really was from his freind.
i also read a few things on reincarnation... there was the Shanti Devi case in the 1930's. It might be on the net, it's certainly fascinating stuff and quite convincing too.

Thanks for the recipe. I do make my own sauce and its the perfect time of year for it. My parents always have buckets of tomatoes left over as the season ends, this year they planted paste tomatoes, the best for sauces so I've scalded, peeled them and froze them that way in order to make sauce at a later date. I may make a big batch this week. Been itching to make cabbage rolls and with the homemade sauce will be most excellent. I freeze them in bags of 2 or 3 and can take them to work, OOO yummy.
I'm not a huge pasta eater but do enjoy spaghetti and rotini occasionally. I'll try that recipe after I grocery shop, no lasagna noodles here.
Have a nice Labor Day!

Thats too funny, changed it as you were on my site. I get sucked into those themes so easily, I'll browse the Multiply theme pages and try them out on my site. You never really know what they truely look like until you try one on. I am in love with the new Blue Bird theme I found. Thought this profile photo fits the page better too. LOL. Can you tell I have had 1 too many cups of coffee and its raining. All of my houseworkd is done, the dogs are napping, and I'm playin' around on the pc.

Oh no way, I can totally see you on a farm Kathy. Maybe even on a farm in times past with you at a coal burning fire, sewing a rug for in front of the hearth. Warming up at the fire from being outside checking on the sheep as they lamb. Yes, I can easily see that in you.

Glad you're thumb is going to be OK. Sucks when you have a hurt hand, seems like all you do is bump the sore one no matter what you do.
Went to my aunt's farm yesterday, she has the same kind of dogs (komondor) and what a day we had. I took some pics of her goats, including a 3-legged one she has. She said she was at the livestock auction looking for goats and saw this little fella, merely a small scared baby with 3 legs, poor thing tugged at her heart. No one was bidding on her so she immediately felt her arm go up to bid. You'd never know it was handicapped, makes it around with no trouble. We think it may have gotten frost bitten when it was born.

Anyhow, hope you have a good day. OH weather? Its raining (we need it) but chilly, in the mid 50's right now at about 7am. I like this weather, the cool days of autumn are coming.
komplete wrote on Aug 27
Sounds like your thumb is under control.
The seeping? Not sure but long as you have someone look at it. No redness or heat and I wouldn't worry too much.
I agree with you about nature. Its not always perfect and not always pretty but thats the beauty of it. Unpredictable and never the same BUT nature always does follow patterns. Its breath taking to see hawks and large animals doing what they do, surviving. My parents have seen a bald eagle in their area, YES OHIO! They have seen is 3 times now, I've gone to the area and haven't seen it but do wish someday to get lucky enough. Mom says the beak and talons are so large you can see them even when they eagle is in flight far away.
Nature is a wonderous thing. When I was a kid, I was in the field with my cows (yes animal lover all my life) and had deer walk right up to me. They didn't let me touch them nor did I try but to be that close and not have them fearful will stay with me forever. They just did their thing, eating and swooshing their tails. 5 feet seperated us, I saw their beautiful liquid eyes, the stick like legs, even the flies on their heads. lol. It was awesome.
Well, I'm off for the day. Going to my new puppy's "moms" house. Gonna try and get some pics of the working dogs she has there in her field. What a site, just as they were bred to do hundreds of years ago in Hungary. Even the Magyars had them (sorta like atilla the hun kinda people).
Have a good day!

An odd legend about this sauce. Puttanesca means 'whore' in Italian. The story I have heard is that the Neapolitan whores would come home after a hard night's work and cook this - sound's about right, doesn't it?
